There’s a strange new twist to the already strange story of a woman’s body found in a freezer. People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals says the case has prompted the organization to display a billboard in Mobile. The billboard would show a woman’s severed leg on a plate.

As we’ve reported, Anthony Hopkins is charged with murder. Mobile police believe he killed his wife almost four years ago. Court documents obtained in a News 5 investigation show that police were tipped off when one of Hopkins eight children reported she was being raped by her father. The daughter told police the mother was dead and in a freezer. Hopkins is being held without bond and is due back in court Tuesday morning.

In a news release sent to local media, PETA says it hopes the billboard will make people consider “that all meat is murder”. In the release, PETA says “the group aims to demonstrate that everyone—not just humans—made of flesh, blood, bone, and emotions deserves respect and that cows, chickens and pigs also value their lives.”

News 5's Kimberly Curth is covering this story and will have a full report tonight on News 5 at Six.

merry_impette on , its not the bill board, its the picture in peoples mind of the thought of a human leg on a platter. peta did a great job with michael vick, but this will only hurt the animals they are trying to protect. peta is very self centered on this, they are promoting their name not animal rights. shame on peta

At first, I thought that a billboard depicting a severed human leg on a plate was disgusting, especially considering what happened to that poor woman. But .. I was curious, so I clicked on the link to view the proposed billboard, which is, pardon the pun, tastefully executed. There’s no blood or gore, just a woman’s bent knee resting on a plate. In fact, at first glance, it sorta looks like a big piece of grilled chicken. Kinda makes me not want to eat chicken. Besides, with all the news about contaminated beef, animal abuse on factory farms, and the pollution caused by those same farms, I’m not sure that eating any kind of meat is a good idea.

I disagree with them, but PETA has a point if you look at the issue from their point of view....

Human life does posses a higher value than animal life, but in order to believe this, you have to have a valid reason to believe that it is more valuable.

What is that reason?

Because we are humans so we value it more?

That is not a good reason at all--- that is supreme arrogance. From that idea comes the idea that life of my race, socio-economic or national variety is more valuable than other human life that is not like me.

So… the fact that human life is more valuable because it is my “kind” of life is not sufficient grounds to believe that it is more valuable.

So why then?

Simple.... because human life is created in the image and likeness of God. Human beings and not pigs or cows bear the image and likeness of God.

Therefore, when you omit the understanding of creation or of the Judeo-Christian God from our understanding then you are left with all life being equally valuable.

This is the most outrageous thing I have heard of in a long time. There is a distinct difference in an animal and a human! If they do this billboard it would be in such poor taste and disgust that I would not be able to drive on that street. Read the Bible PETA, we are allowed to eat certian animals to sustain life. This would be horrific to the family of this woman, If it were me I would sue the A.. I mean pants off of you.!

peta is nuts. peta is only hurting the animals they are trying to protect by even considering this. shame on you peta.

Besides having respect for the deceased, this is politically inappropriate as well. PETA does not have a right to put up a sign saying “Meat is Murder” anymore than the meat eating majority have a right to tell vegetarians they are starving their children.

I just hope no one in Mobile confuses this Group with my P.E.T.A (People Eating Tasty Animals) Group.
