SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - A soldier in Iraq is in custody after heallegedly opened fire on a superior and another unit member,
killing them both.
An Army spokesman said Wednesday the shooting happened Sunday in
Tunnis, Iraq. Killed were 24-year-old Staff Sgt. Darris J. Dawson
of Pensacola, Fla., and 26-year-old Sgt. Wesley R. Durbin of Hurst,
Texas.
The slain soldiers and the alleged shooter belonged to the 4th
Brigade Combat Team of the 3rd Infantry Division, based at Fort
Stewart in Georgia.
Fort Stewart spokesman Kevin Larson said he is unsure whether
the soldier in custody has been charged. The soldier's name has not
been released.
Base commander Maj. Gen. Anthony Cucolo said in a release that
many details remain unknown as the Army investigates.
