In a quiet hospital room, Summer Whaley prays for her ten-month old son. The infant, Brian Crenshaw Junior, was shot at a neighborhood get-together in West Pensacola Friday night.
"It's hard to see my baby cry," says Whaley. "It's hard to see all those wires and tubes in him."
Whaley and her son were enjoying a late-night card game and fun with friends when Whaley says a man at the get-together shot her baby. Willie Porter has been arrested on numerous charges including Aggravated Child Abuse and Use of a Firearm Under the Influence. Porter claims the shooting was an accident.
"I'm having a hard time forgiving him," says Whaley. "We kept telling him to put the gun away, to quit playing with it. He was showing off and kept pulling the gun out of his pocket and it went off."
The infant is in serious condition at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.
"He's not out of the woods yet," says Whaley. "But I thank God everyday that's he's still here. As long as he's breathing, that's all that matters to me."
