Sometimes a moving company has perfect timing. Pete Floyd lost his home and virtually everything he had after Katrina struck. Wednesday night, two years to the day, Pete will finally move into his new home.“I figured it would take two years, but I didn't realize it would take exactly two years,” says Floyd. He’s just one of the hundreds of people still working to get their lives back together after the monster storm. City officials say they’ve issued 8,000 building permits in the last two years. While progress is being made, there’s still work to be done.
“We think our census is probably down by about 15-percent,” says Mayor Matthew Avary. “We base that on the census from the schools.” You’ll find the normally tranquil silence of Beach Boulevard occasionally shattered by the work of contractors.
“I was just about ready to give up and just say hey I'll just move into an appartment somewhere and get out,” says Tommy Seaman. “I really didn't want to do that.” Builders should have his home ready by Thanksgiving time.
