The parents of a Satsuma High School football player, paralyzed in a car crash, are optimistic their son will be taken off a ventilator soon.
Joseph Toomey was airlifted to Atlanta on Tuesday, one week after he was paralyzed from the chest down in a car crash.
According to his parents' blog this morning, Doctors have reduced Toomey's oxygen to 40%. He also sat in a wheelcahir for the first time today.
Doctors at the Shepherd Center say Toomey will eventually be moved to a special wing for patients ages 15-21 years old.
Toomey was a standout player for the Satuma Gators before the crash. Doctors say he may not walk again. His parents have set up a website to update family and friends on his condition. See external links.
