News 5's Steve Alexander spoke with the Island Mystics about their plans to roll Saturday.The following is a press release from the Mobile County Sheriff's Department:
Mobile, Ala. (January 11, 2008) —Mobile County Sheriff’s Office will be out in force this Saturday to ensure that traffic moves smoothly during Island Mystics Mardi Gras Parade on Dauphin Island. The parade will begin at 1:00 p.m. and conclude at approximately 2:30 p.m.
Traffic control will be provided by deputies and Dauphin Island Police Officers from 9:00 a.m., through 4:00 p.m. along access roads to Dauphin Island and roadways on Dauphin Island.
Parade goers are urged to allow ample travel time due to particularly large crowds expected to attend.
The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office is asking that parade goers do not stop along the route or the Dauphin Island Bridge. The Sheriff’s Office and other agencies are conducting recovery operations in the waters around Dauphin Island for the bodies of four young children murdered on Monday January 7, 2008. Parade goers are asked to be conscious of law enforcement operations in the area and are asked not to stop along the roadway in the operations area interfering with recovery efforts.
