The holidays are a time for families and their loved ones to get together, but for some folks that's not always possible, especially for those who have loved ones serving overseas. But thanks to Prudential Nichols Real Estate in Daphne, 11 families got to see their troops face to face via a web video conference today (Sunday), provided free of charge by the realty office.
"We wanted to do something other than angel tree, or toys for tots. They're great programs, but we wanted to kind of branch out and do something a little unique, "said Travis Stone, Prudential Nichols Real Estate.
The Frye family was one of the families that took advantage of this rare opportunity. Kelly Frye says she could not wait to see her son.
"I was just glad to see that he's ok, and knowing that he's coming home in a month, just made it that much better," Said, Kelly Frye, soldier's mother. Her husband Jey Frye says it was comforting to hear his son's voice and share some laughs with him again. "He's doing alright, I mean it's been pretty tough, but you know he's..had a sense of humor that show's that he's in good spirits,"Said, Frye, soldier's father.
The real estate office says this is the first time they've offered this non-profit service and they hope to offer it a couple of times a year.
The office says they got the idea from the, "Freedom Calls Foundation", a national non-profit organization that has been providing this service to troops and their families, since 2003.
