A Mobile man was killed and another seriously burned in a late night fire in Crichton. The fire started at a home on Frederick Street near Hemley Avenue just before 10:30pm Sunday night. Mobile Fire and Rescue Department spokesman Steve Huffman says a 31-year-old man died in the fire and another man received 2nd degree burns. The man told authorities he was trying to get into the burning home to help his friend but was unable to do so. He was taken to USA Medical Center for treatment.
Investigators say the fire appears to have started in the kitchen before spreading throughout the house.
The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. The names of the victims have not been released.
