On the second story of Bienville Books, wicked changes are afoot. Workers sort stacks to open the “Haunted Book Loft. This room pays tribute to the old Haunted Book Shop that existed in downtown mobile for half a century.“People have a long memory in mobile so they still remember the haunted book shop,” says owner Russ Adams. “When I opened Bienville books I thought it always would be nice to honor them in some way.” Adams says he got special permission from original owner Adele Trig to use the "Haunted Book Loft" name. The two month project helps them unload a ton of stuff from storage.
“It's been kind of cool because we had way too many books downstairs and now we have a place to put all the books people want but they don't really come in for,” says Literary Manager Alyson Gamble. Much of the loft is devoted to sci-fi and horror books.
“It's a very popular field and I’ve not really run across too many book stores totally devoted to this particular area,” says Adams. The Loft has a soft open this Friday at 6 in conjunction with the monthly LoDa Art Walk.

I remember the Haunted Book Store from my teens. I remember they had a leather bound version of Gone With The wind. This was back in the 80’s. They had quite a bit of interesting stuff back then. Can’t wait to see if the new shop is compatible….
