If Chicago's new police superintendent gets his way --

he wants the officer captured on surveillance tape beating a handcuffed man
shackled to a wheelchair -- fired.

It happened in 2005 when Randle Miles was at a hospital to be treated for a
stab wound.

He reportedly became verbally abusive, and that's when the beating started.

Miles says he could do nothing to defend himself.

"I didn't have no understanding why, this was happening, it was nothing I could
do I was shackled and handcuffed, I had no defense, I could do nothing but
just sit there and take the beating," he says.

Miles received a 125-thousand dollar settlement from the city over the beating.

The officer who beat him pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor and was sentenced to
18 months probation.

He's scheduled to return to work in April from an unpaid suspension.

But Chicago's new Police superintendent thinks officer William Cozzi should be
terminated and is reviewing the case.

In response to claycitymadness- Obviously, you have never been stabbed. Regardless, it is baffling that a human would hit another while they are chained to a wheelchair, completely defenseless. Maybe I need more of an explanation on how to “act right.” I guess I should keep my mouth shut no matter the situation and do what I’m told? Corruption is everywhere and giving the few good people left out there a bad name. Rise up people and don’t let this happen to you without a fight!

sorry, when you are in custody thats the time to act right and behave. thata not the right time to be demanding your rights. had he shut up and sat there and gotten whatever service he needed and left it never would have happened. instead he mouthed off to the police, the medical staff, and the other patrons of the hospital who werent there to see this fellow show out.  if he would have responded to the medical staffs requst to act right, it would never have escalated to the police even being involved. i wonder what he did to provoke someone to stab him anyway.

This isn’t the norm for most police officers, but all of the officers in that video need to be dealt with, since they stood by and watched. I’m stunned!

as an ex member of the thin blue line, this type of behavior is not indicative of the average law enforcement officer.  please remembe that yesterday, a police officer risk his own life to pull a person from a burning car.

I wonder what happend to the police officers who just sat there and watched. I know that people like to yell police brutality and it really was not, but this clearly is.

All the officers that watched this happen need to be GONE too. Charges need to be filed immediately!
