open an office in downtown Jackson as the Democrat prepares for
Mississippi's March 11 primary.
Former Gov. Ray Mabus and U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss.,
are co-chairs of Obama's Mississippi campaign.
Mabus told reporters on a conference call on Monday that nearly
1,000 people have volunteered in Mississippi to assist Obama's
presidential bid.
Obama and U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton are competing for the
Democratic nomination. John McCain is the front-runner for the
Republican nomination.
Mabus said there are many voters who have not committed to a
candidate so the campaign isn't "taking anything for granted in
Mississippi."
Mabus couldn't confirm whether Obama would attend any
fundraising events or other activities in Mississippi before the
primary.
