The latest happened Friday here in the 1100 block of Selma Street. The victim says he was mowing his lawn when a masked man demanded his wallet--the victim escaped unharmed.
The robberies have caught the attention of neighbors.
“It's getting scary, it really is,” says Jackie Yockes. “They're happening so, not only here but all over town and that's what gets me if it was one place and they could, but we do have good police protection now.” Jackie has lived in Oakleigh for more than 50 years. She says she's got people looking out for her.
“I feel secure I have you know burglar bars, security doors got good neighbors all I got to do is pick up the phone they're right here,” says Yockes. Even with the recent robberies neighbors say they feel okay about living here and nobody's going anywhere.
“I love this area,” says homeowner Sonny Dewise. “All the neighbors know each other and everyone kind of looks out for each other.”
