arrested last weekend while walking naked near a ball park may be
the same man who was seen several times in parks in Alabama and
across the state line in Mississippi's George County.
Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd said his sex-crimes unit
received several tips Thursday about a man, believed to be
45-year-old registered sex offender Michael Ryan South of Wilmer,
Alabama.
The tips were about a man roaming around nude near the Dog River
in George County and around the Escatawpa Hollow Campground in
nearby Wilmer.
An Alabama park ranger who reported seeing a man fitting South's
description roaming naked there several times this year gave a tip
to sex-crimes investigator Hope Thornton.
Thornton said the park ranger chased the man off a number of
times, both in Alabama and in George County, where the ranger often
goes to launch canoes for residents at the Dog River site.
South was arrested while walking around naked in a wooded area
behind Lum Cumbest ball park on Mississippi 613. He has a
preliminary hearing scheduled Jan. 14 in Jackson County.
He faces charges of felony enticement of a child and misdemeanor
indecent exposure in connection with two incidents in northeast
Jackson County.
