Wal-Mart has decided not to build one of its stores in Mobile. The new Wal-Mart was supposed to be located in the old K-Mart building on Government Boulevard near Kreitner Street.
Three months ago, the retail store said it's pulling out of the deal because of economic reasons.
Mobile City Councilman Reggie Copeland said he's disappointed because the city could've used the money from the taxes.
He said he believes there are talks to put a church in its place.
"If a church goes there that's fine. I'd rather have that than a controversial outlet that would go there and create some problems in the adjacent neighborhood to Delwood. But with a church going there they know it's not going to be a serious traffic problem or bright lights at night or what have you other than the parking lot issue," said Mobile City Councilman Reggie Copeland.
Plans to build a Wal-Mart on Airport Boulevard are still a go!
Last year, the Mobile Planning Commission approved plans to put the 120,000 square foot building near Providence Hospital.
A spokesperson for Wal-Mart told News Five, the Wal-Mart is coming, but it is still not known when the company plans to break ground.
