The Graham's family told News Five after their well dried up, they paid South Alabama Utilities $630.00, thinking the company would run pipes to their home and install a water meter.
But South Alabama Utilities told the family they would have to supply the pipes themselves, but the disabled and elderly couple could not afford to.
Since then, many of you have contacted us offering your help and thanks to several members of the community the family's water woes are finally over.
With heavy machinery, some muscle power and plenty of hands to help, Deborah Black says spending the day in the hot sun digging a ditch is worth it. "We'll get some hot water back, we won't have to heat it out on the stove,"Said Black.
Black says if it wasn't for a couple of good samaritans, her family would still be scooping rain water out of barrels. "It's the good Lord's work, channel Five's work, Lowe's work and all these good people out here helping us,"Said Black.
Scott Lankford with Lowe's Hardware says a generous lady, who would rather not take the credit for her kindness, bought 620 feet of pipes so the Graham's could run water to their house. And Lowe's gladly dropped it off. "In this situation we were able to respond with a real great sense of urgency take care of her and really made us feel good about it to know that we were helping somebody in our community,"Said Lankford.
Alex Cantu says it's not how he planned to spend the day, but he's happy to help his great granddad. "Actually I would go swimming, but I like helping people better, it's the main thing I love to do,"Said Cantu.
Cantu's grandfather Nathan Graham says he already knows what he's going to do once the water is back on. "I'm happy about this water gonna take me a good bath and I might even shave...I might, "Said Graham. Just a simple necessity...that Black says for the past five weeks, seemed like a luxury to her family.
"I'm sure after today we can do away with those barrels, we won't have to worry about no more rain water,"Said Black.
The Graham family would like to give a special thanks to Peggy Morgan. Through Morgan several generous samaritan's and Lowe's hardware were able to reach out and help the Semmes family.
