Metro Jail Warden Mike Haley says there's no air movement and it very uncomfortable inside the jail.
The units broke late last week in the south end of the jail, where some of the high risk prisoners are held.
It's not just the inmates feeling the heat. About 230 employees work there as well.
Temporary air units were set up over the weekend.
Warden Mike Haley says heavy rains could jeopardize units sitting on the ground.
Mobile County Commissioners voted to circumvent the standard bidding process opting for a quicker one. Instead of advertising and accepting bids for thirty to sixty days, commissioners hope to have a contractor replacing the a/c units within a matter of weeks.
County commissioners say the price tag on two new air conditioning units will likely be about $150,000.

Don`t feel bad!!! Why are county inmates so important? NONE of the Alabama State Correctional Facilities have A/C!!!! Those guys have in some as many as 364 inmates in a dorm that is made of steel and block! The bunks are steel and too hat to be able to lay on, the ice machines are locked and ice call is rare! So, don`t use up all that pity on county inmates,. some may be heading for much worse conditions! Besides if it is uncomfortable, they may not want to return!!!
