in common? They are all going to be honored with U.S. postage
stamps in the new year.
2008 marks the 100th anniversary of the legendary actress'
birth. The commemorative stamp honoring her is the 14th in Postal
Service's Legends of Hollywood Series.
1908 was also the year that an actor named Jack Norworth wrote a
song called "Take Me Out to the Ball Game." It still gets a
workout during Big-League seventh inning stretches. The melody will
be recalled with a stamp based on a 19th-century baseball card.
The new year will also see the launch of a long-term stamp
project called Flags of Our Nation. The 60-stamp set will include
the Stars and Stripes and the flags of each of the states, plus the
District of Columbia and U.S. territories.
Among the other new stamps will be one honoring the year itself.
The Year of the Rat stamp will mark the Chinese lunar new year.
Those born in the Year of the Rat are said to be industrious,
adaptable and ambitious.
