GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Of all the honors Neil Young has
received, this may top them all: a spider has been named after him.
East Carolina University biologist Jason Bond has named a
newly-discovered trapdoor spider after Young. The new name is
"Myrmekiaphila neilyoungi." Bond discovered the spider in
Jefferson County, Alabama, last year. He says in a statement there
are strict rules about how new species are named, but as long as
those rules are followed, you can name a species anything you want.
He says he really enjoys Young's music and he has great
appreciation of him as an activist for peace and justice. Young has
not yet commented on the honor.
