ATLANTA (AP) - Studying will make a select group of schoolchildren in Georgia a bit richer -- both academically and
financially.
The privately funded "Learn & Earn" program will pay 40
hand-picked kids $8 an hour to hit the books. And they can even
earn bonuses if they improve their report cards.
School officials say the program will determine if cold hard
cash can lure the scholar out of students. Students in the eight
and 11th grades were picked to participate in the 15-week trial
based on attendance, grades and economic need.
