Dr. Roy Nichols has officially taken over as head of the largest public school system in Alabama. He was sworn in Wednesday morning and even got the chance to show his sense of humor.Dr. Nichols sported a small white bandage on his forehead. He talked about it in his press conference.
" The garage door repairman slowed the door down. Usually, I'm impatient and I like to duck under the door when its going up. Well, it wasn't going up as fast as it use to, or I didn't duck as deeply, one or the other."
The Mobile County School Board signed a 3 1/2 year contract with Dr. Nichols to become the new superintendent.
He will make $210,000 his first year on the job.
Dr. Nichols says the job will be difficult, but he says he will work closely with the school board, staff members, and teachers to solve all these issues.
