The anti-annexation folks claims there were voting irregularities on election day, there was a police officer dressed in uniform who intimidated voters into voting "yes," and that the boundaries drawn for the annexation vote were skillfully crafted to work in the city's favor.
City of Mobile spokesperson Barbara Drummond says the lawsuit doesn't have any merit.
"We looked at a great deal of data from past referendums tried by past administrations for the city of Mobile and this particular area was favorable for coming into the city of Mobile and that's the way we crafted it, based up that. It was not any deliberate effort that annexed area A was going to come in. We won by 26 votes. We don't quite understand that argument," said City of Mobile spokesperson Barbara Drummond.
The annexation vote was divided into four areas: A, B, C, and D.
Voters approved only area A.
