TALLAHASSE, Fla. (AP) - The leader of the fourth largest state
in the nation and the head of Florida's pre-eminent civil rights
organization met this week. The topic of conversation was ...
pants.
The NAACP says schools have bigger things to worry about than
whether kids' pants are pulled all the way up, which is the subject
of a bill moving through the Legislature. Governor Charlie Crist
apparently agrees, and sent signals this week that he might veto it
if it passes.
After a meeting with the president of the Florida National
Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Adora Obi Nweze,
Crist said he didn't think the government should be involved in
questions of style.
Under the bill (SB 302), schools would be required to notify the
parents of students caught wearing low-riding pants that expose
their underwear. A second or third offense would result in an
in-school suspension.
A fourth violation would bring a 10-day out-of-school
suspension.

They brought the style out when they were released into society and it caught on the outside, so yeah…

Rumor is that saggy pants are supposed to emulate the JAILHOUSE look of no belt. Why would anyone want to look like a prisoner, excapee or future prospect? How was this brought to the attention of the NAACP?

RMSEEK you have a good point. There are rules to follow. In Mobile School District, they send kids home for the wrong color of shoes. Indecency is more serious!

Thank you NAACP for turnin this into a black issue!(sarcasm)They should not have even made this an issue to stick there noses into, black or white it is absolutely a problem in the schools and everywhere else, these kids need to those britches up onto the butts, and look like respectable people!

It’s not a question of “style”, it is a question of decency. It is a question of following the rules set forth by the school system. The NAACP has to have their hand in a little bit of everything don’t they?

I no more want to see some persons boxers from sagging pants, than I want to see thongs because the pants are cut so low, their hoochie is about to hang out. Keep your boobs, your fat bellies and your behinds covered, please. Keep it in the privacy of your own home if you want to flaunt it.

I don’t care if the kids are black or white, I don’t want to see their butts hanging out. What sort of parent thinks it’s all right to allow their child to expose his or her rear whether it’s covered with undies or thongs? Might as well put a tramp stamp up there if you are going to allow your kid to dress like that. GROSS!

Why is the NAACP getting involved in this.  This is a school rule and should be reinforced.  I was at the credit union the other day and some “low rider” was standing there and his pants fell down.  He should have been charged with indecent exposure.

The advantage of the sagging pants is that when these kids commit a crime they can be caught quickly because they can not run and hold up their pants at the same time.
There should not be a need for a law to enforce decent dress in our schools. Discipline is neccessary to good education. With the NAACP getting involved in this tells me the black leaders are saying it is ok to go against school rules, why?
