Mobile remembered the people who lost their lives in the 9-11 attack with a special memorial service Tuesday night. It was held at Mitternight Park and featured songs, prayers and speeches.
Jessica Breland with the Mitternight Park Community Action Group said, "This is something that everyone should constantly remember. It should be remembered not only on September 11th every year, but every day."
Pastor Derwood Perkins of Forest Hill Church of God said, "We constantly need to remember them (those who gave their lives.) And they have been a great crowd of witnesses, as the Book of Hebrew says, that's welcoming us home."
The Mobile Fire-Rescue and Police Departments were also represented at the service.
Captain Kara Fagan of the Mobile Police Department said, “Chief (James) Barber said today at another event, as people are running out, the police and fire are running into the World Trade Center. That's what we do."
Fire-Rescue Captain Debbie Bryars traveled to ground zero eight months after the attack.
She said, "There was a chief there who had lost a son, and they had allowed him to come back although he was retired and actually dig for the remains of his son. But standing next to him was the twin brother, identical twin brother, of the son that he had lost and so those men made an impact on me."
The Mitternight Park Community Action Group has been putting on the service every year since 2001.
