The show's host Ty Pennington showed up at their door Friday morning bringing the good news.
In seven days, a team of designers, volunteers, and workers will tear down the family's old home and build a new one.
The Gaudet's home was slowly deteriorating and was battered by Hurricane Katrina along with a small house fire.
Eight people lived in the small home.
Five families from Alabama were nominated.
Lydia Gaudet crossed her fingers that hers would be picked.
"When we heard we'd been nominated, my heart just leaped because I just had so much hoped that it might really happen and of course as the process gone on, it was just very nerve wracking because you don't know, because you really don't know if you're going to get it or not," said Exteme Makeover: Home Edition Recipient Lydia Gaudet of Mobile.
The family should be able to see their new home next week.
As a bonus, the television show flew them to Arizona to see this Sunday's Superbowl.

Okay, so I understand how you have been inconvenienced by whatever noise or blocking of the streets or your yard or whatever is going on. point taken. NOW SHUT UP ABOUT IT. I can’t believe you live close enough to them that it is affecting you but dont seem to know anything about these people. I was roommates their daughter in college and you have NO IDEA how much this family deserves this! Mrs. Gaudet has been through alot with her children, and you can say whatever backhanded thing you like, but may omething horrible happen to you if you interfere with what good is happening for them.

to “yodaddysride,”

i understand your frustration.  i do not live on the same street but in the neighborhood, and it is quite a frenzy.

my only suggestion to you is to either stop or bring it down a notch.  it is obvious that you are fighting a losing battle.  i really am only trying to help you.

but to all the others that do not live near or in the neighborhood and have just visited or seen it on t.v., you truly do not understand what it is like living in the middle of all this choas.  most people I have encountered do find it extremely exciting, but not everyone feels that way.

I am over all of you.  I’ve said my piece.

Also, OHMYGOSH, are you threatening me???

Because it’s a free country & that’s why they invented message boards.

You know they really do a lot of research before they chose a family. Thay make sure a family is not lying about anything.
Also you said the family has been sitting on their butts and not making repairs for 30 years, but they did not buy the home til 1990.
If you do not believe that look it up it is a matter of public record.
Also I stood in your front yard today looking at all the exitment. I did think it was nice that all the neighbors pulled together to make sure this happened. Now I know full well if you owned this property and did not want this going on then you have the legal right to make them move. So you do have a choice.  And also not a good idea to let everyone know where you live because people are not happy about you. And they will not forget the trash talk you are doing. Big Mistake.
To all the other neighbors , and I mean next door or even 2 blocks down. You are great to help out. I am sure it can be not so fun at times.

I think it is absolutely wonderful that extreme makeover came to Mobile, Al. This family is very lucky and I think it is wonderful. I love the show and cry almost every time I watch it. More people should be like Ty Pennington and his design team. Keep up the good work.

well...the show really does help people out,I believe now that it’s literally right in my back yard. I’ve watched from time to time on television and wondered how they chose who would recieve a new home,I still don’t know, but I’ve sometimes cried while the family(s) saw their new homes because the history of the former living spaces are often heartbreaking.People do deserve a break every now and then if the need is real, thank God for organizations that go out to find ways to help others.Good job EHM!!

WOW.  I AM NOT JEALOUS.  But that’s just what my friends said people would say about me when I made myself vocal about my feelings.  It’s that I keep my house up & make repairs & don’t sit on my butt & watch my home crumble around me for 30 years.  I’m just sayin’.

I tell you what, since you two guys ARE SO SUPER EXCITED & SQUEALING ABOUT HOW AWESOME it is, I invite you to go stay in my home while I am not there & enjoy the wonderment that is Extreme Home Makeover.

Just a fair warning, though, I think you will be quite disillusioned.

But again, I just want to thank everyone on this message board for allowing me my freedom of speech & then telling me how wrong it is.  Super Awesome.

Peace Out.

The people in the world today! They can’t accept the fact that something good happens to anyone but thierselves. I think that this person is just so hateful in everyway!!! “YODADDYSRIDE” --you need to chill out and be happy for them no matter how mad you are .......DEAL WITH IT ....you ought to be ashamed of yourself!! I think someone ought to teach you how to be a nice boy!!!

I think it’s ridiculous how some people are complaining about this.  I know this will be an inconvenience for a week, but they screen these people very very well before they decide to choose them.  Be happy that someone you know or live by is being given this gift instead of being jealous that it’s not you.  I’m just happy that someone from Mobile has been given this wonderful opportunity.

You know, it is so super awesome how supportive all you people are.  I hate that I cannot even vent about how this is affecting ME without seeming to be a HORRIBLE PERSON.  It doesn’t matter...I am not going back to the neighborhood until this is all over… I can’t even park in my own driveway & my front door has barricades in front of it.  But obviously you people are getting pixie dust and cotton candy clouds and skittles falling from the sky for your house.  So Enjoy.

Oh, one last thing.  I know the Gaudets.  I don’t like the Gaudets.  My experiences with them have not been friendly.  They have not been friendly to me and my family.  So that is MY EXPERIENCE with them.
