In seven days, a team of designers, volunteers, and workers will tear down the family's old home and build a new one.
The Gaudet's home was slowly deteriorating and was battered by Hurricane Katrina along with a small house fire.
Eight people lived in the small home.
Five families from Alabama were nominated.
Lydia Gaudet crossed her fingers that hers would be picked.
"When we heard we'd been nominated, my heart just leaped because I just had so much hoped that it might really happen and of course as the process gone on, it was just very nerve wracking because you don't know, because you really don't know if you're going to get it or not," said Exteme Makeover: Home Edition Recipient Lydia Gaudet of Mobile.
The family should be able to see their new home next week.
As a bonus, the television show flew them to Arizona to see this Sunday's Superbowl.
