Ignorance is bliss i guess.. especially the quotes in this article.  The girl was driving on the wrong side of the road ... she hit an officer.  Its time people assume responsibility.  I don’t care if the officer has had 100 wrecks in 3 years.  I’m thinking wow only 4 in 3 years!! The line of work they are in requires them to be in their car more often than a regular driver.  I guess most of you think its the officers fault for coming down the same road as this girl too huh??? Give me a break people.  ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY.  Im sure she is super de duper but its time to put the big girl panties on and deal with it.

Last time I checked, this was America we lived and and freedom of speech saves us all. This is people letting of steam, wanting to let people know their “FEELINGS”. Some take things to personal. Judge not should judge not.......heed the words you sew.
I am thankful that I was no where around to witness this wreck, I don’t think I could comment on how I feel. So if you didn’t witness it don’t hound people who also didn’t witness it.

A customer of mine is a co-worker and friend of Mr. Ashton. Just so you all know, he is near tears everytime this is mentioned. He has gone to Birmingham twice to see his friend who has been put in an induced coma TWICE… You want to know what Andy Ashton’s first words were when he woke up Sunday morning after the horrible accident the week before??? “Where am I? What happened? Do the guys know?” and “Will I ever walk again?”. Yes, imagine what this poor, poor woman is going through. Why don’t every single one of you imagine what it is like to wake up, loosing almost a week of time and wondering if you will ever be able to use your feet again. There is a fine line between an “accident” and taking someones ability to function normally. This has crossed the line of “just an accident” She near took the life of someones husband, someones best friend… I am so sorry but if you are pathetic enough to wonder what *she* is going through..... you seriously have some issues.

No, I was not at the scene, nor do I know either person involved in this accident. But, if drove on the wrong side of the road and hit someone, IT WOULD BE MY FAULT! I hope you are not that naive to believe if she was on the wrong side of the road and hit someone head on, that it could not possibly be her fault.

Just curious, were you in the car with either person when this wreck happened? Not with this wreck, but I can tell you the sound of being hit head on, thank you

Are you talking about the deputy not being perfect? If so, I would not imagine they could say it was his fault for hitting someone driving on his side of the road.

When you do hit someone in the rear end, insurance companies dont care to find out the fault, the one that rear ended is the one who was at fault. No matter what reasons are given. So hitting someone head on, driving down the wrong side of the road how could you not be at fault?

I wont comment on her being drunk yet, but what I will comment on is that it does not matter if this was his 3rd,4th or even 10th accident, SHE was driving on the wrong side of the road! He didnt cause this wreck, she did. So why would you talk to “very reliable officers” about how many accidents he has been in?

Oh yeah, by the way, the officer is doing better. He was on a ventilator because he had a blood clot. And because patients tend to fight against the ventilator, his doctors put him into a coma. He didn’t “get worse” or “start going down”. He had a minor set back and things are looking much better. I wish him & his family a speedy and full recovery. As for Summar’s family, they’re rallying around her, knowing that none of this was intentional & that, even though we don’t like it much, accidents happen. That’s not an excuse, that’s reality.  And Summar truly is living proof of the saying, “That which does not kill us makes us stronger.” I just wish you all could know a little bit of the woman I know her to be. She’s strong, intelligent, independent, & always smiling. She’s had to struggle & fight to have what little she’s got. She isn’t a bad person. She’s a good person in a bad situation. The world is a better place because she’s still in it. And I am a better person for knowing her.

I really shouldn’t be commenting on this situation because I’m entirely too close to it, but I am. First off, toxicology reports have not proven she was “drunk” nor that she’d been drinking. Secondly, she wasn’t on the run. The family was in contact with the DA’s office the entire time. But the DA isn’t interested in telling the truth. Thirdly, according to very reliable officers in Mr. Ashton’s Precinct, this wasn’t the first vehicle accident he’s been in (this is #4 in 3 years). Summar broke many bones, crushed her pelvis, and cracked quite a few ribs. She doesn’t have a passport, money, or the personality to run from her responsibility. She was raised too well for that. So saying she’s a “flight risk” or “running” is ludicrous. And you should be ashamed of yourself. Even I am old enough to know that every decision you make isn’t going to be the right one. And for the people who think she needs Jesus or “the good book”: I hope you washed the windows on that glass house of yours.

I agree if someone simply made a mistake by driving down the wrong side of the road ( drinking or not) and it was a plain citizen instead of an officer that was injured that it would be PLASTERED everywhere-or made such a BIG DEAL of? NO! She did make a BIG MISTAKE and she will have her punishment however, the Media needs to get the facts straight before advising the citizens of some nonsense-she was released @ 4pm and authorities were contacted at that time and aware of her whereabouts. Anyway how is someone with the injuries she has and no means of transportation going to be on the run??? Leaving her babies...PLEASE...You People Never Cease To Amaze me at all the crap you come up with! Get the facts straight...I am so very sorry for what has happened and do hope that the officer and Summar make a full recovery..God Bless them Both....
