Mobile Police say there were fewer arrests this year despite the bigger crowds.
“Each year our officers get ready for the big push, working long hours with little break,” said Police Chief Phillip Garrett. “They are the peace keepers that gave us a good Mardi Gras year.”
Underage drinking seemed to be the biggest problem. Police arrested 78 people for minor in possession of alcohol. Under Alabama law, it is illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to consume alcohol.
But minors were not the only ones who had problems with alcohol. Police arrested 88 adults for public drunkenness or disorderly conduct.
There were 8 felony arrests (Possession of marijuana (4), Vehicle burglary (2), Assault (1), Outstanding Warrant (1)).
Police also help reunite 25 lost kids with their parents -- 9 of them on Fat Tuesday.
People who ignored No Parking signs also kept police busy. MPD towed 260 cars that were parked on parade routes, about twice as many as last year. They also ticketed 250 drivers for illegal parking outside the parade routes.
