A manhunt that lasted more than eight hours ends peacefully with the accused killer in custody. Mobile County Sheriff’s deputies arrested the suspect, Aubrey Lynn Shaw, at his mother’s home around 5:15 Monday afternoon. Investigators say Shaw had been hiding out in a wooded area around Argyle Road and St. Elmo in Irvington before they spotted him at the house right next door to where the victims, Bob and Doris Gilbert, were found dead. Mobile County Sheriff Sam Cochran says Shaw appeared tired and muddy when he deputies arrested him.

“Man, this is scary, really scary,” said Laura Schambeau, who lives across the street from the murder scene. “They never bothered anybody. It’s just a shame,” she said.

“It’s a gruesome scene,” said Cochran. “They were murdered with an edged weapon, probably with a knife of some type,” he said.

The search for Shaw began just after 9 a.m. when deputies were called to the scene. Officers combed the area on foot, in patrol cars and on ATVs. Dogs from Mobile County and Atmore were brought in to help, and a state helicopter patrolled from the sky. “Every asset that we can put into play is vital,” said District Attorney John Tyson, who was also on the scene.

During the search, there were two burglaries in the search area that Cochran says likely involved Shaw. According to Cochran, at one home a rifle, ammunition and jewelry were stolen. At the second house, Cochran says a woman saw Shaw trying to break in when she attempted to shoot him. But, Cochran says her gun did not fire. No one was injured in neither incident. Cochran says Shaw could face capital murder charges.

Schools Locked Down

Mobile County Schools spokesperson Nancy Pierce tells News 5, four schools (Booth Elementary, Dixon Elementary, Alba Middle and Bryant High) went into mandatory lockdown. Three other schools (Breitling Elementary, Castlen Elementary and Grand Bay Middle) went into voluntary lockdown. Parents were allowed to come pick up their kids early. All seven schools plan to hold classes tomorrow as usual.

Parents let this be a lesson, talk to your kids while they are young, let them know that a simple high/buzz now, can devastate your life forever, and it’s WAY easier to START, than it ever will be to QUIT.

i would have returned to the streets back to my same ways. Anyways, it don’t matter, cause truth be told, it’s all about money, and the state will not spend what they don’t have to, regardless of our safety. Len was a great guy when we were kids, CRACK/COCAINE did this to him, he was not in his right mind, TRUST ME, when he was not on dope, he would have bent over backwards for ANYONE, and we need to thank our new Sheriff, for all the efforts he’s made cleaning up our neighborhoods, he’s did a great job so far, and needs to keep up the good work.

i’ve know him since i was only 6 years old,I’m 27 now, he’s been in and out of thre system multibable times. Therefore that should tell you, that he’s not recieving the rehabilition he truely needed, not that it matters now, i’m sure that he will never be released again, and that’s prob best now. The point is, had his problem been properly dealt with, these murders may have been prevented. PEOPLE ON DRUGS NEED TO BE REHALIBATED, NOT CAGED. I took it upon myself to get off drugs with no help, but had i have been locked up in a prison,

O.K., for those of you who have never been there, you will never know how it works. I HAVE. When you been up for 3-5 days on crack/cocaine, you do things, and do not even realize you did them, until it’s too late. I’m not saying that that’s an excuse. What i am saying is that if he had the proper rehalibation, this would not have happened, we pay the state millions of dollars every year in taxes. They should screen each and every individual, who is in a prison/jail for a drug-related crime, before releasing them to the streets. Len Shaw and i grew up together,

If people do not think that jail and prisons are a perfect rehab for these drug crazied people, you are wrong. They go to jail for drug crimes time after time for a short while. Let them sit in jail for a several years without the ability to get those needed drugs, go through the withdrawals with out any medications and they will think before they start again. The cost of jail rehab since they are there most of the time anyway certainly beats the cost of these open rehab centers that they can walk away from.
My heart goes out to Aubreys Mom, I know how she feels. God Bless us All

my thoughts and prayers are with the family:( it is very sad to loose someone i myself lost my 2 little cousins lastyear in a DUI accident and the guy only got 2 years for mandatory manslaughter....i have seen people on drugs also and they will do whatever they have to do to get the money for them i myself have never and will never do drugs i wouldnt want my kids to do it either but i am sorry this happened to your family chrssy.....

According to Chrssy he has children, what kind of influence is he going to be on them.  He obviously doesn’t learn from his mistakes, he has been in jail before and he seems to be worse now that he has been punished his cousin Chrssy said that he was reformed and was going to do right but obviously that wasn’t true now two innocent people had to die becasue once again justice has not been served his rap sheet is a page and a half long he has been hurting his family and his self since he was 18 it is time to put a stop to it before others get hurt.

this should be a message to all of the dope pusher on the streets.  you are killing innocent people.  just think, this could have been your mother and father, sister and brother, or even your son and daughter that your brother, sister or uncle killed just to get another fix.  God bless us all.  God bless the families involved.

I believe in rehabilitation, however, the clear fact is it seldom ever is effective.  To those stating rehabilitation is the answer, I offer this thought:  After he completes his rehabilitation, would you allow him to live in your home with your family?  I dont think I would be able to void the fact out of my mind that no only did he murder two people, they were his family.  And the fashion in which they were killed was not a compassionate killing.

Actually that’s not correct.  I work in the field of legal defense so I work in similar situations.  The State of Alabama offers what’s called the SAPP Program.  It’s a substance abuse program offered to prisoners.  However my thought is: this individual has exceeded the normal behaviors of a “drug addict” whose actions normally include theft or property crimes.  This man savagely took the lives of two innocent people.
