MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Officials say a pedestrian who was struck
and killed by a truck late last week was a homeless man from
Florida.
Clarence Patterson was fatally struck Thursday night as he
walked across a road near the TA Travel Center truck stop in west
Mobile County.
Patterson was in his mid-60s and was hit by a Toyota 4-Runner
sport utility vehicle.
Bob Henley said he conducts religious services at the Travel
Center on Sundays and knew Patterson well.
He said Patterson had been living in a tent in a wooded area
near the truck stop and was well liked.
State trooper spokesman Corporal Joe Piggott said no charges
were filed against the driver of the SUV
