The Mobile County Sheriff's Office says a murder investigation is underway after they say a man was brutally beaten to death. It happened around 9:30 Saturday night on Two Mile Road, near Mimosa Drive in Irvington. Investigators say that is where they found the body of 60-year-old Charles Tillman Jr., lying on the front lawn of a house. Now four men are charged with his murder after authorities say Tillman was beaten to death, with a wooden stick. But the folks at the home, where Tillman's body was found, claim it was self defense. "It's private property, when you're asked to leave, you're supposed to leave. I mean really, it was pointless, he should've just left," Said Jimmy Connor, one of the residents. While investigators are still trying to determine a motive, the family of the house says, the altercation would have never happened if Tillman did not threaten to pull out a gun. But investigators believe Tillman was unarmed. "Investigators are trying to sort through everything as best as they can, right now there's been no indication that it was self defense,"Said Sgt. Jerry Taylor with the Mobile County Sheriff''s Office.
The Sheriff's Office says 46-year-old Craig Skipper, 20-year-old John Connor,18-year-old Jayce Golemon and 16-year-old Adam Skipper are charged with murder and are being held at Mobile Metro Jail. They will be in court Tuesday for a bond hearing. The Sheriff's Office also tells News Five an autopsy will be done tomorrow to figure out exactly how Tillman died.
