A man already serving a 20-year sentence for armed robbery and burglary is now charged with the 2004 murder of his girlfriend's baby.

On August 4, 2004, Joy Lancaster left her 11 month old baby, Amelia Brotzman, and her 2-year-old son with her boyfriend, Archie Daughtry, while she went to work. When Lancaster came home at 6:30 the next morning, her daughter was lying face down, unresponsive, on a bed in Daughtry's room.

Daughtry, who had been dating Lancaster for three months, took off before police arrived.

The medical examiner couldn't determine what killed Brotzman and the murder case went cold.

Detective Danny Harnett, with the Pensacola Police Department, reviewed the case in January. After looking at the evidence, he believed the baby was suffocated.

Harnett kept investigating and was able to determine that he was drinking with friends while babysitting that night. Police believe Daughtry got mad because the baby would not stop crying, so he held her face down on the bed until she died.

Police arrested Daughtry on Wednesday.

Amen! CHIEFLANCASTER and I would be proud to be your backup if we could get 30 minutes or more with him. I would consider it an honor to take over if you got tired with him. I have no or very little tolerance for people who hurt kids. As I said before death would be to Quick, people like him have to have his punishment burned into his memory and to be a warning for other child killers.

He needs to serve at least 20 more years after serving what’s left on his present sentence. No time off for good behavior, no parole just at least 20 more years of hard time. No death penalty, that’s too quick and easy for him, just hard time for the rest of his life.
