MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Polls are opening at 7 a.m. for
Alabama's primary election.
The state's chief election official, Secretary of State Beth
Chapman, predicts the turnout will be 12 percent to 15 percent. She
says there are few hot races other than the 2nd and 5th
Congressional Districts.
State Democratic Party Chairman Joe Turnham and state Republican
Party Chairman Mike Hubbard are hoping for a little better turnout.
Hubbard says the GOP turnout will likely be helped by hot races for
the State Board of Education in the 1st District in southwest
Alabama and the 3rd District in central Alabama.
