MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama's top election official expectsa light turnout for the primary election.
Secretary of State Beth Chapman predicts 12 percent to 15
percent of Alabama's 2.6 million registered voters will participate
in the primary Tuesday.
Chapman says the turnout was 17 percent four years ago, but that
was when the state primary and presidential primary were held on
the same date. This year, the presidential primary was held in
February. The secretary of state expects the most voter interest in
the 2nd and 5th Congressional Districts, where there are hot
Democratic and Republican primaries.
The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
