Mississippi Senator Trent Lott officially retired from the Senate Tuesday, ending his 35 year run on Capitol Hill.Republican Governor Haley Barbour will appoint a successor to
serve until a special election is held next year.
Lott, the Senate's No. 2 Republican, announced November 26th that he would resign by year's end.
The 66-year-old said he wants to pursue another interests, but
he hasn't said what those are.
