A Mobile judge will have to face a judge in Florida after being arrested during an undercover prostitution sting in Escambia County.
Judge Gary Goosens is just one of the alleged johns arrested last night in the Brownsville community in Pensacola.
For about six hours Wednesday night, the Brownsville community was the focus of another crime sweep. This time the target was prostitutes and their customers.
In all, six men were arrested. Among them administrative law judge Gary Goosens.
Sheriff's department spokesman Glenn Austin says the arrest was a little surprising. "He seemed calm almost a little confused he ask first of all why did you stop me and then he said well I just drove by I didn't stop of course when we told him we had recorded the audio he quit talking"
The way the operation worked, an undercover officer stood on a street corner, a car would drive up, solicit sex, the officer would tell them to meet her around the corner and that is when the cops would move in and make the arrest.
"It's great, I Love it." Mark Christiansen lives in Brownsville and welcomes the increased police presence. "We try and maintain some kind of safety in the area but after dark unfortunately they come out they come out really strong the females and drug dealers. The drug dealers live off the females.
Goosens is free on bond. He is charged with soliciting. A minor crime in the eyes of the law but a major embarrassment for a local judge.
Also arrested in the undercover operation a teacher at Suter Elementary School in Pensacola.
James Hurley has been suspended with pay and could loose his job if convicted.

My point is that, just because they are leaders to us, we see them all over the news. The others may be a leader to someone and have a great bearing on a childs life, and you do not care if we know about them or not. Jan

I do agree with the previous comment about why put the Judge and the school teacher on front street when there was others involved. But we also need to keep in mind that the Judge has a imagine to hold up, his role in his profession has a great inmpact on our lives. He is a decision maker and people look up to our Judges, because on some occasions , our live can be in the judges hands. And as for as the school teacher, we trust and depend on our school system to teach our kids in a professional manner and when things like this happens it make a lot of parents wonder what really has this teacher been teaching the kids and also what goes through his mind when our children enter his class on a daily basis. The Judge and The School Teacher both are leaders and have a great bearing on our lives as well as our children lives.

on the prostitution, 01-10-08, i do not understand why you only named the judge and the school teacher. all 9 people did the same thing. why not name them all? don’t they all deserve the same punishment and humiliation? just doesn’t seem fair, even if you say they are in the public eye and we need to know. i am a firm believer that if you are gonna tell the story, tell it all!!! jan kent
