Dr. Roy Nichols was on hand Tuesday afternoon to watch his first school board meeting and a change in leadership on the school board.
And while he's in town this week, Nichols is also visiting schools.
Nichols said, "I visited two schools this morning and hope to visit two more tomorrow morning, just going around, looking at the facilities, shaking hands with employees, just getting to know the system."
Nichols says he wants to visit every school in the system and is already asking for feedback from teachers and principals.
The new superintendent says he's doing an on-line survey where employees can leave messages for him.
Nichols says he's asking three basic questions: "One, tell me something positive about the school system that you're really proud about. Two, what needs to be fixed, and three, is there anything else I need to do for us to be successful together."
And school board members elected new officers Tuesday.

Ken Megginson was elected the new vice president.
Belle said working with Dr. Nichols is one of his top priorities.
The new board president said, "He (Nichols) knows what he's doing, so I look forward to that. I look forward to staying out of the micro-management area, and keeping the board members out of that as well."
Dr. Nichols first day on the job as the new superintendent is January 1st.
