The infant's mother, Tyrese Lewis, 18, confessed Friday to killing her baby and dumping her in the trash.
The FBI believes the baby is now somewhere in Allied Waste Services' 246 acre landfill in Escambia County, Alabama near Brewton. But, FBI agents and Prichard police suspended their search Monday after dogs, brought in from out of state, turned up nothing.
Police chief Lawrence Battiste contacted the Center for Missing and Exploited Children to form another search team. Battiste says this will be the last attempt to find the infant's body.
"I don't live too far away from it, so I never would have thought it," said Justin Jackson, who lives nearby.
"It's unbelievable," said another neighbor, Harry Lowery. "You just wouldn't believe a human being could do there own kid that way."
The Allied Waste dump is the largest in Alabama. More than 2500 tons of trash are dumped there daily.
"We're cooperating with the FBI," said Craig Bryan, who manages the landfill. Bryan says they are providing access to investigators.
Police and FBI began searching the landfill Saturday. No one is saying when they'll resume their work.
The infant's mother is charged with murder and is being held on a $100-thousand bond.
