Prichard Police are going door to door, rounding up people who owe the city money.
The city gave people the opportunity to pay up, no questions asked during Operation Payback, which ended Friday. Now anyone who is delinquent on fines and court costs could end up eating Turkey behind bars.
So far police have arrested three people. Some of them will make bond. The rest will pay off their fine with jail time. Each day in the slammer is worth $25. So for example, if you owe the city $500, you would serve 20 days in jail.

Arrested:

Edward Brown - Owes $580

James Freeman - Owes $542

Djuan Adams - Owes $1270

Oh this is wonderful.  Lock them up, feed them and if they have a medical emergency you could possibly spend up to $100,000 or more on their medical bills.  If you lock them up you still don’t have their money.  What about community service or something.  If they don’t owe any more than that they are light-weights.  It cost $100 a day to house a prisoner and they are getting $25 credit do the math.
