How much does one of those fancy canoes cost?

If you’ve never tried it, you may be pleasantly surprised.

In my case it’d be scream fishing,"SAVE ME, SOS,SOS”.

I think they need to change the name of the sport from “Kayak Fishing” to “Extreme Fishing”.

I’m doing good not to fall in from the bank or a party barge! One cast from one of those and I’d be floundering around in the water like a fish on dry land and looking for the Coast Guard to come save me.

And I will add...the BEST part of this whole crazy thing we do, simply and sincerely...are the people. I have been here from the beginning, we started with 8 who met for lunch, and have grown into one of the most respected and recognized associations around. We are but one of hundreds of groups in the country, and are one of the youngest to the sport. Our membership makes it what it is today. Honestly, some of the best people I have ever known. Diverse, yet shareing a common bond...we love where we live, we protect our estuary system, and we truly believe that we are making a difference in our efforts of conservation and showing Mobile and Baldwin counties to the entire nation through the many magazines in which our association has been featured. We have gained the distinction of being ranked in the top 20 nation wide, and #1 in the Southeast for the best places to kayak fish in America(Kayak Angler Mag). We like boating...we love to kayak. Hmmm...VERY CAREFULLY! j/k...beach it. Some of our more ingenious members have developed different ways to deal with this problem, but going to the beach is easy, plus you can get out and stretch a bit. As for the sudden whitecaps and high waves, we just keep a VERY keen eye to the sky. Some of us carry VHF Marine radios with weather alerting, and we have many friends of the sport who are quick to give a shout on the cell to warn of approaching weather. Big fish, rays, sharks and such really are no problem for us. We have several members who have recently discovered the rush of offshore, and have done well. If all else fails, simply cut the leader. Rolling is always a possibility, but with the sit-on top kayaks that most of us use, the stability is better than most people think. Mobile Bay isn’t saltwater?  Ok, who dumped all the Morton’s salt in there?  Seriously, as a kayakfisherWOMAN with the MBKFA who grew up on both sides of Mobile Bay, it is a wonderful experience to fish from a kayak.  In fact, there are several teams around the country who specifically target sharks, tarpon, sailfish, from kayaks.  I tend to enjoy my specks, reds, and flounder, but there is no limit to the possibilities of kayakfishing.  With the cost of gasoline increasing, kayaks are becoming a more feasible option; if our forefathers for centuries fished out of them, why can’t we?
