Watching gas prices go up almost daily, inspired some Baldwin County kids to try and turn the tide by reminding everyone that cars aren't only way to get around Pleasure Island. The pedals they're pushing aren't gas pedals..
An hour before school starts students gather in a Gulf Shores park on everything from bicycles to skateboards.
"I want to ride a bike to school so we can help the earth," says fourth grader Kendall Gates.
At least for a day, gas pedals have been replaced by bike pedals.
This all started because of skyrocketing gas prices. The solution according the kids is as easy as riding a bike.
Around a hundred students from all three Gulf Shores Schools headed out hoping to lead by example and something else according to Tommy Barnes, "Trying to make the world a little greener.
"I hope it shows Exxon and all the big corporations that together we can make a change and the youth wants to make a change and they plan to ban together and do something about the gas prices," says Gulf Shores junior Madaleine Cassady.
Ken Gates brought his fourth grader to take part in the ride. He says one bike ride won't make that much of a difference, "It's the next generation it's all we can do is start them off at that age who knows, they may find the answer that we haven't found in our generation."
The people riding the bikes just might make all the difference in the world.

I just hope that the Patrick Ballard is still in jail otherwise lookout cyclist.

But on a positive note.  I am glad to see the students trying to make a difference.

This may not seem like a lot to a lot of people, like a baby step, but soon they will learn to run with it.This is the way to go to fight the oil giants. Now if the cities would step up and create walk and bike paths,it would be another big step on the journey to energy independence, which would increase our freedom.
