If you think gas prices are high now, it could get a lot worse if a major hurricane hits the Gulf Coast. University of South Alabama economics professor, Dr. Semoon Chang, says we could pay almost double what we're paying now, if a category three or higher hurricane hits the central Gulf Coast, that's from Texas to Alabama, where refineries and oil rigs are,"there's no doubt that prices of gasoline will go up; by how much nobody knows. It'll probably go up at least temporarily between 5 and 7 dollars per gallon, but I don't think it'll last that long," said Chang. Chang says while the high price of gas may discourage some people from evacuating if a hurricane heads our way, he says the main reason people may not leave is because of the bad experience they had during Hurricane Katrina trying to find gasoline. Chang says he's referring to the many people who got stuck on interstates when they ran out of gas and couldn't find it or a hotel room.

Makes me think of Smokey and the Bandit.

Well 5000 to 15000 gallons would sure be more tempting than a few hundred bucks from the service station. Looks like we’re going back to the times of prohibition, when they were hijacking all those trucks of liquor and smuggling it in to the states. Might be in the reverse order on gas. I’ve always heard that’s how the head of the Kennedy clan came into his fortune, smuggling in liquor.

kctenac16, i can’t believe the jump in price today i agree with your choice of words with the forcasters. 10.75 is what it has jumped today , forget 8 dollars for a hurricane try 8 dollars as the norm, i do not want to even think of what it will be if a hurricane nears the gulf. elderly people single parents are in big trouble, people will be broke no matter who.

Tanker trailers can hold anywhere from 5,000 gallons to 15,000 gallons.  It just depends on how the tanker is set up to carry the fuel—Some have multiple tanks for different types and some of them hold only a single kind.  But before anyone goes out there and starts to hijack trucks.  They must first really understand what is in each type of tanker.  Otherwise they might wind up with a big tanker of milk or a haz-mat chemical that could kill a small town.

rosepetal, i understand what your saying. I know oil is traded in regards to futures price. What I’m saying now is that last week they were prediciting gas to drop in July since they were trading nearly 121 a barrel. Now since this analyst &^%$#@! came out and stirred up this, all of a sudden its going to skyrocket?? Makes no sense to me. Someone is padding their pockets somewhere

carl, if gas goes much higher i think tanker trucks would be smart to have armed guards kind of like brinks. i dont have a clue how much they can hold, but i see your point they are at risk its like hauling liquid gold. but i just cant see a crack house with pumps but to resale it to some crooked cstore owner or something that has happened before. its harder to do now, but a crook will always find a way .. have you seen the mass motorcycle and big rig protest in england because of fuel prices

Maybe I should have said “possible hijacking of these trucks” and not “the possibilities of”. That sort of sounds like your planning one, doesn’t it?

Let me jump in here real quick and see if anyone knows how much gas a tanker truck can carry? me and ASDA were talking on another thread about the possibilities of hijacking these trucks and how much they could expect to make off each truck if they sold it for $2 to $3 a gallon.

kctenac16, the stations can’t drop their gas until the gas they have paid more for is gone.
if price keeps going up like it is i look for only big corporations to be able to own stations
lets say you have a 8000 gallon tank (and that is a small tank) gas wholesale at 4 dollars would cost 32000 just to fill up the one tank and thats just regular if you fill plus, super, and diesel you are looking at over 100,000.00 dollars i know its bad on the consumer but the stations are in the same boat. while the stock market has not crashed, this is starting to remind me of the great depression.

i agree rosepetal. another crazy thing that is insane is that the price of crude per barrel has dropped steadily for the past 10 or so days. it even went from 135 to 126 a barrel. did gas drop when that happened? of course no, it stayed steady, not moving up or down. but since today this prick analyst predicts $150 a barrel gas on monday will probably be $4.50 a gallon. something doesn’t seem quite logical here?
