Katrina victims who live in south Mobile County have a new plan of action to try to get additional help.People who traveled to New Orleans this week for a meeting with congressional leaders are focusing on a bill in Congress.
They want the House and Senate to approve the Gulf Coast Housing Recovery Act of 2007.
Zach Carter was one of the people who spoke on a panel in New Orleans concerning the need for help with housing.
He and others have written a letter to Alabama Senator Richard Shelby.
Carter said, "He (Shelby) has a key position, being the ranking member of the banking committee. That is where the bill is presently. And we would like funding for Alabama to be included into this bill."
Nancy McCall of Coden also made the trip to New Orleans.
She said, "I'm not going to give up on it because where there's unity, there's power and we have other people across the miles that are in the same shape and we are uniting together and we are coming back with a voice."
The Gulf Coast Housing Recovery Act of 2007 was introduced in the Senate in June and is in the first stage of the legislative process.
