So you want to work for EADS?
What do you have to do?
And when can you apply?
Those are the questions many people in the Mobile area are asking.
The best way to answer the first question is "get training."
Many people are already being trained in welding for ships in the Alabama Industrial Development Training Program, or AIDT, at the Brookley Complex.
AIDT Director Ed Castile says he's still talking with EADS about what type of training will be needed for its workforce.
Castile says, "The public doesn't know yet what they're actually applying for. When we get all that figured out with the company, then we'll run advertisements."
And how soon will that be?
Castile says, "It will be a few months for sure, two or three, could be five or six."
Still, the EADS announcement is expanding horizons for students.
Trey Byrum, a welding instructor at AIDT says, "Students, the high schoolers and the adults, have been asking us about it."
Ian Safford, a welding student, says he would be interested in applying for a job at EADS.
As for the training he's getting now, Safford says "you come out here three hours a day and weld. It's not really work: its training I guess you could say."
