His computerized legs replaced the ones he lost in October 2006. "I stepped on a roadside bomb an Improvised Explosive Device. I stepped on it and it detonated right underneath my feet."
This Marine Sergeant knew the "what ifs" when he signed up. "I want people to understand that I did what I wanted to do. It was my choice to be there. No one forced me to join the military. No one forced me to go to Iraq."
Now, a new chapter is about to be written for this injured Sergeant and it begins in Irvington.
By the summer, Edwards and his family will have a 3 bedroom home and it's free of charge! The new home is compliments of an organization called "Homes For Our Troops."
Larry Gill is also is a Veterans Liaison and says Homes For Our Troops is like Habitat for Humanity, military style. "Our mission is to build adapted homes for these severely wounded troops. We've completed 18 homes. We've got about 20 in progress at various stages across the United States."
This isn't a government program. Every penny is a donation from those who want to say thanks. Greg really appreciates that! "It really lets me know that the people here in the States support what we're doing and it's a really good feeling to know that we're not doing it all for nothing."
If you'd like to meet Sgt. Edwards, you can catch him at the Senior Bowl on Saturday. He's an honorary team captain!

Car Bomb Rocks Baghdad

This is a great program and this is timely and worthwhile reporting. Our troops need and deserve much more than they are getting thru “official” channels. Fisher House also does a great job by helping families of wounded vets by putting them up in free housing near their loved ones during the critical rehab process so our heroes do not have to go it alone.
