Clinton Davis and his wife have been homeless for the past two years. They've been sleeping in their beat-up pick-up truck or in a tent out in the backwoods of Baldwin County.

"Last night was rough," says Davis. "It was so cold, we had blankets but it wasn't enough. Sometimes you just feel like dying because the pain of the cold is so bad. It rips and cuts right through you."

Temperatures Thursday morning are expected to plunge into the teens across much of the Gulf Coast. Davis has been watching the weather forecast closely.

"Our truck is so old, there's no heater," says Davis. "And the tent is even colder than inside the truck. We just cuddle together and try and stay warm and say a prayer and hope for the best."

Davis and his wife stopped by Catholic Social Services in Robertsdale hoping to get some help.

"Homeless people and cold weather are a big problem here," says Michelle Prockup, director of the non-profit organization. "We don't have a shelter in Baldwin County for the homeless."

Prockup and employees at a local bank gave the couple warm jackets, gloves and coats. Catholic Social Services also found them a motel room to stay warm in tonight.

When camping ,Fires work wonders while your watching the weather!! So many jobs in Baldwin Co. even the illegals have a place to stay warm. What are they waiting for? Some handouts? Don’t even try to make me out to be insensitive just because Someone CHOOSES to live out of their truck. This country is great because everyONE has the oppurtunity to do something in order to have a better life. Baldwin Co. may not have shelters but Mobile does w/ a free meal and a blanket. What you need $10.00 to get across the bay? Come clean, if truly homeless there is a reason. Niether of you look to be starving. I am more than willing to help, it’s just I’m overwhelmed by the fishy odor.

Oh, and by the way do you by chance have a generator to run that heater you offer. How ‘bout some fuel? You got any smokes and alcohol/ Those tend to help in cold weather also. Mmmm a 18oz. steak would be really cool too.

Pardon my rant, but these handout programs just don’t work, they only create more “NEED” Bye
