Carnival's Holiday Cruise Ship can't seem to catch a break. Less than 3 weeks after 145 passengers and crew members came down with a gastrointestinal illness, Holiday unexpectedly returned to Mobile over the weekend.
A Carnival Cruise Lines spokesperson based in Miami said the Holiday returned briefly Sunday because of a medical emergency, but would not elaborate.
Holiday left Mobile Saturday afternoon on a 5-day cruise to Mexico. The ship turned around 1:30 Sunday morning because of the medical emergency. According to the cruise line's policy, if a passenger has a medical emergency, the crew decides where to dock. In this case, the crew decided it was easiest to return to Mobile.
Carnival says the the ship was evacuated while the passenger was taken off. Once things were cleared, the remaining passengers got back on and headed to Mexico.

Thanks for the clarification.  Either WKRG or Carnival got their stories wrong.  It just didn’t make sense that the entire ship would have been evacuated.  Sorry about missing a stop - that’s the down side of cruises.  Their small print says they reserve the right to give you a miserly amount if they have to cut out a stop or change the itinerary.

They DID NOT evacuate the whole ship. This is ridiculous. They let the doctor off that was brought out there that evening along with the patient carried off in a stretcher and his wife. We were not given any informaton other than the patient became ill and we had to return to port. Rumors were flying that he had a heart attack and another that he died. He didnt look dead to me as I looked over the side of the boat while they unloaded him. Carnival took away one of our stops and only returned $25 per visitor. So for a 5 day cruise we spent 4 days at sea which is a pile of manure. I would not take this cruise again if it were free!!

The only logical reason is that this person somehow posed a threat to all passengers and it is doubtful that a purely physical illness could have been involved.  Could it have been someone making threats that endangered the ship and all the passengers, so they had to evacuate the ship to assure the threat was not real?  It’d be easy for Carnival to classify this as a “medical” emergency, when it may have been more “mental” in nature, and given Carnival a way to cover over an incident that would alarm others and reduce future bookings....TV5 should have pressed Carnival on this possibility instead of parroting Carnival’s very vague, and frankly illogical, explanation.
