No other details have been released. We have a crew on the scene and will bring you the latest developments as they become available. School officials say classes will go on as planned tomorrow

I am also a teacher and it saddens me that a young person chose a permanent solution to a temporary problem and that he chose such a public forum to do so.

It also saddens me that the posters here turned this into a rant about cell phones.  Students do use them to cheat. They do carry them illegally in the schools and they know the consequences of their actions.  Don’t get upset when they break the rules and get punished for breaking the rules.

The Cell Phone policy is not a local rule.  It a Law passed by the state of Alabama that states that students shall not possess electronic communication devices.  Contact your legislator.

But for now, Pray for the family of the young man that felt it was necessary to take his own life.

As a teacher, there are MANY things parents do not understand about cell phones. (1) A cell phone is NOT going to stop a kid from doing harm to others. If a student comes in to shoot people, he\she will do it. A phone call from a frantic teen will not save a life. (2) Cell phones in school should NOT be allowed. The kids text each other - CHEAT on tests. They watch PORN videos, etc. Parents need to consider the big picture. Cell phones deter what we are here to do - EDUCATE.

I feel so bad for this young man’s family, regardless of his past mistakes. And what about the mental stability of the kids that watched this happen-I cannot even imagine their horror. My prayers are with them all. I agree cell phones need to be allowed. I personally don’t see the problem, as long as they are turned off. What if he had decided to open fire on others and not himself, and none of those kids had cell phones? I think this is one that the system to lighten up on!

I am with you on this one cruz. My daughter was just suspended from school a couple weeks ago for texting me to let me know she had been called to the office. And when I got in touch with the people in the office they said she was indeed in trouble (nothing major) but was not supposed to have a cell phone. I agree with you that EVERY child should have one. Yes we grew up in school without them, but we didn’t go through the things that our children are going through in schools nowadays. My prayers are with this childs family.

When I heard this I almost started crying and I still want to. I’m thankful that no one else was killed or injuried but my prayers go out to the family, friends and anyone else that are related to this boy. Schools need police man one the campus everyday and I keep telling myself they need to have a metal detecters at every door to warn everyone if someone is walking in the building with a weapon...PS and I TOTALLY agree with cruznotcruise comment about the cell phones I’m a senior this year doing online school but when I was in public school our school board made up there mind to let use take cell phones to school but have them put away and not seen unless they READY need them for something like this.

What a horrible tragedy.  Wasn’t this the same young man just accused of robbing the Dairy Queen on Moffat Road?

Suicide is a horrible, painful ordeal for any family—my prayers are with them.

In a day where we have no idea what is going to happen after we drop our children off at school I can’t help but feel that the school admin & school board is doing an injustice to the parents by suspending kids for having cell phones.  I feel that especially in a situation llike the one @ Davidson every child on campus should have had a cell phone to call their parents could you imagine every child on campus trying to get to a phone booth to let them know they were okay.
