"The doctors told us he probably wouldn't walk again," says Toomey's mother, Regina. "But we just can't believe that. We believe in God and we're praying for a miracle."
Toomey's family and friends have been at the hospital since the wreck. Toomey's room is covered with notes, get-well wishes and scriptures.
"I thank everyone who's come by," says Toomey. "It's helped a lot, and everyone keep praying. I love all of you, every single one of you."
"Thanksgiving was hard for us," says Toomey's father, Joe. "But we realized we do have a lot to be thankful for because in all honesty, we should have been attending a funeral."
Toomey will be moved to an Atlanta rehabilitation center soon. The young man faces months of grueling and exhausting physical therapy. A bank account has been opened at all First Community Bank branches for Joseph Toomey to help his family pay for mounting medical bills.
