Some faithful marchers told News Five that this year, the fee to participate is 20 dollars per person or 35 dollar for a couple.
They said in year's past, all they had to do was walk up on the day of the parade and sign-in.
Now, they have to fill out an application and pay their money.
"The society is ruining a grand tradition of Mobile. It is unique to Mobile. There is no other city in the United States or around the world that has this day for the people and by making all of this so difficult, you're taking away this wonderful tradition," said faithful Joe Cain Foot Marcher Jody Horner.
A spokesperson for the Joe Cain Parading Society Jim Baldwin said the money will be used to help cover the cost of the parade, buttons and ribbons, and to help build a Joe Cain statue.
The deadline to apply to be a foot marcher in the Joe Cain parade has come and gone.
Baldwin says about 120 people have applied to march in Sunday's parade.
Most years, about 200 people participate.

Anyone who wants to walk in the parade should pay a fee.  Have you observed how secure you feel in Mobile, police are everywhere and you need to pay for your safety.  It also prevents too many people and over crowding of the streets.
