BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Baseball great Hank Aaron has endorsed
state Sen. Vivian Davis Figures' bid for the U.S. Senate at a news
conference and fundraiser for the Mobile Democrat.

Figures opposes Republican incumbent Sen. Jeff Sessions in the
Nov. 4 general election.

In Birmingham, Aaron said Thursday he has told Figures not to
let anything stand in the way of her election goal, comparing her
quest to his own baseball career.

The Atlanta Braves hall of famer said he didn't listen to those
who told him many times that he couldn't surpass Babe Ruth's mark
of 714 home runs. He did it with 755 - a record broken last year by
Barry Bonds with 762.

Sessions has a substantial advantage in campaign dollars and in
the polls. His campaign spokesman, Chuck Spurlock, declined to
comment Friday on Aaron's endorsement.
